Screen Time for Toddlers — Realistic Rules for Bangladeshi Homes

WHO says zero screens before age 2 and one hour max from 2–5. In a Dhaka home where the iPad is the babysitter while you cook iftar — that's not always realistic.

What actually matters

  • Content quality > quantity — Co-viewing 30 min of educational content beats 10 min of YouTube Shorts alone.
  • No screens during meals — Eating becomes mindless. Pickier eaters down the line.
  • No screens 1 hour before bed — Blue light delays melatonin. Sleep tanks.
  • Active vs passive — Apps that require tapping/responding are better than passive video.

Replace screen time with toy bins on rotation. Three toys out at a time, change weekly — it feels like new toys every Sunday.
