Choosing the Right Baby Detergent (and How to Read the Label)

Baby skin is 30% thinner than adult skin and absorbs more of whatever's left on the fabric. A good detergent matters more than a fancy moisturiser.

Read the label for these red flags

  • Optical brighteners — make whites look whiter, leave residue on skin
  • Fragrance / parfum — common irritant for sensitive skin
  • SLS / SLES — surfactants that strip natural oils
  • Dyes — unnecessary and irritating

What to look for

Plant-based surfactants, pH-balanced (around 7), free of fragrance and dye. Hypoallergenic doesn't mean much legally — read the actual ingredient list.

Tested and trusted

In Bangladesh, the cleanest options we stock are Mothercare Baby Detergent, Chicco Bottle & Accessory Cleaner (for bottles), and Himalaya Baby Wash for hand-washing delicates.
